Role OverviewThe Engineering & Maintenance Department Manager is responsible for leading all maintenance and engineering activities within the factory, with a primary focus on ensuring maximum equipment availability, reliability, safety, and cost-effective operation of all plant assets.This role owns the maintenance strategy, preventive and predictive maintenance systems, asset lifecycle management, utilities, and facility infrastructure, while also overseeing engineering projects and technical improvements. The position plays a critical role in minimizing downtime, optimizing maintenance costs, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting production continuity.Key Responsibilities1. Maintenance Leadership & Asset ReliabilityLead, manage, and develop a multidisciplinary maintenance team (mechanical, electrical, automation, utilities).Own and continuously improve the plant maintenance strategy (Preventive, Predictive, and Corrective Maintenance).Ensure maximum equipment uptime, reliability, and availability across all production and utility systems.Establish and track maintenance KPIs (MTBF, MTTR, breakdown rate, maintenance cost %, spare parts turnover).Oversee root cause analysis (RCA) for recurring failures and implement permanent corrective actions.Manage critical spare parts, maintenance planning, and shutdown/overhaul activities.Ensure safe execution of maintenance work through LOTO, work permits, and risk assessments.Lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce unplanned downtime and maintenance costs.2. Compliance, Safety & FacilitiesEnsure all plant equipment, utilities, and facilities comply with General Directorate of Civil Protection requirements.Ensure full compliance with health, safety, environmental, and statutory regulations related to maintenance and engineering.Lead safety audits, maintenance inspections, and regulatory readiness activities.Promote and enforce a zero-accident culture across maintenance and engineering teams.Ensure proper maintenance of firefighting systems, utilities, HVAC, power systems, and infrastructure.Engineering & Technical OversightOversee engineering modifications, upgrades, and technical changes related to equipment and facilities.Review and approve maintenance-related engineering designs, layouts, and technical documentation.Provide expert troubleshooting support for complex equipment failures and system issues.Ensure compliance with industry standards (ISO, CE, electrical and mechanical codes).Lead commissioning, installation, and handover of new equipment into the maintenance system. Qualifications & SkillsEducation & ExperienceBachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronics Engineering.8+ years of experience, with strong exposure to industrial maintenance and plant operations.Minimum 3 years in a senior maintenance or engineering leadership role within a manufacturing environment.Technical SkillsStrong knowledge of industrial maintenance practices, utilities.Experience with CMMS / maintenance management systems.Knowledge of ISO standards, safety regulations, and fire protection systems.Soft SkillsStrong leadership and team development capabilities.Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.Ability to work under pressure and manage critical plant situations.Effective communication with production, management, and external authorities.Strategic mindset with strong cost and business awareness.Project & Shutdown ManagementManage maintenance-driven projects, plant upgrades, capacity expansions, and major overhauls.Coordinate with Production, QA, HSE, and Supply Chain to minimize operational impact.Ensure projects meet cost, schedule, safety, and performance targets.
