Role Description The Gem Cataloger is a full-time, on-site role based in Cairo. This role is responsible for identifying, describing, and cataloging gems and jewelry items with a high level of accuracy and consistency. Day-to-day tasks include researching gem characteristics, recording detailed product attributes, assigning appropriate subject headings and metadata, and maintaining an organized catalog of items for internal and customer-facing use. The Gem Cataloger will collaborate with sales, merchandising, and photography teams to ensure product data, descriptions, and classifications are aligned and up to date. The role also involves quality-checking catalog entries, updating records as inventory changes, and supporting process improvements related to information organization and retrieval.QualificationsBackground in Library Science or related fields, with practical understanding of library services and cataloging principles.Experience working with metadata standards and structured information, including the ability to design and maintain clear, searchable records.Familiarity with LCSH or comparable controlled vocabularies and classification systems to ensure consistent subject access.Strong research skills to verify gem characteristics, origins, and descriptive details with reliability and precision.Attention to detail and high level of accuracy when entering and reviewing item data.Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and communicate clearly in writing and verbally.Comfort using databases, spreadsheets, and cataloging or inventory management tools; willingness to learn new systems.Prior experience in jewelry, gems, retail cataloging, or a similar product-focused environment is an advantage.Relevant academic degree or equivalent practical experience in library science, information management, museum studies, or a related discipline.
