Job DescriptionThe Internal Audit Director is responsible for leading and overseeing the company’s internal audit function to ensure effective risk management, internal controls, compliance, and governance processes across all retail operations. This role provides independent assurance to senior management and the Board regarding the effectiveness of financial, operational, and compliance controls, while supporting business integrity and sustainable growth.Responsibilities1. Audit Strategy & Leadership Develop and implement the annual internal audit plan based on risk assessment. Lead, mentor, and manage the internal audit team. Present audit findings and recommendations to executive management and the Board/Audit Committee. Ensure alignment of audit strategy with business objectives and retail expansion plans. 2. Risk Management & Internal Controls Evaluate the effectiveness of internal controls across stores, warehouses, and head office functions. Identify financial, operational, and compliance risks within retail operations. Recommend corrective actions and monitor implementation of audit recommendations. Strengthen internal control frameworks and corporate governance practices. 3. Financial & Operational Audits Oversee financial audits including revenue recognition, inventory management, shrinkage control, and cash handling processes. Conduct operational audits to improve efficiency, cost control, and profitability. Review store compliance with company policies and procedures. Monitor fraud risk and investigate suspicious activities when necessary. 4. Compliance & Regulatory Oversight Ensure compliance with local laws, regulations, and internal policies. Coordinate with external auditors when required. Oversee internal investigations and compliance reviews. 5. Reporting & Continuous Improvement Prepare detailed audit reports with actionable insights. Track remediation progress and ensure timely closure of audit findings. Promote a culture of accountability, transparency, and ethical conduct across the organization. Requirements10+ years of experience in Internal Audit (preferably within retail or FMCG). Minimum 5 years in a leadership role. Strong knowledge of retail operations, inventory management, and financial controls. Experience in risk management and corporate governance. Professional certification preferred (CIA, CPA, ACCA, or equivalent). Strong analytical, leadership, and communication skills. High level of integrity and ethical standards.
