For more information, visit www.gf.comAbout The RoleWe are looking for a Junior Silicon Photonics Design Engineer to join our growing photonics team and contribute to the design and development of next-generation silicon photonic integrated circuits (PICs). This role is ideal for a motivated early-career engineer who wants to build strong fundamentals and gain hands-on experience in photonic design, simulation, and chip development. You will work closely with senior engineers and cross-functional teams to support the design, simulation, and characterization of silicon photonic components and subsystems.Key ResponsibilitiesSupport the design and simulation of silicon photonic components and small subsystems. Assist in the design and analysis of waveguides, modulators, photodetectors, couplers, splitters, and heaters. Run optical, electrical, and thermal simulations under guidance from senior engineers. Help with PDK usage, design rule checks, and layout-aware simulations. Support chip tape-out activities, data analysis, and lab measurements. Assist in correlating simulation results with measurements. Contribute to design documentation, reports, and presentations. Required QualificationsBSc or MSc in Electrical Engineering, Photonics, Applied Physics, or a related field. 0–2 years of experience in silicon photonics, integrated optics, or a closely related area. Basic understanding of optical waveguides and photonic components. Familiarity with simulation tools such as Lumerical, IPKISS, Photon Design, or similar is a plus. Basic knowledge of CMOS fabrication concepts. Strong willingness to learn and grow in a fast-paced environment. Good problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills. Familiarity with Python, Matlab, or data analysis tools.
