Location: Cairo, Egypt Work Type: Full time - Onsite - Zahraa MaadiExperience Required: Minimum 3 years in accounting.Reports to: Financial ManagerPurpose of the RoleThe General Accountant is responsible for managing the full financial cycle of ongoing projects and contracts, with a specific focus on contract accounting, Work-in-Progress (WIP) tracking, and revenue recognition in accordance with actual project completion rates. The role acts as the financial backbone of the project operations team, ensuring that all costs, revenues, and cash flows are accurately recorded, reported, and reconciled on a monthly basis.Operating at the intersection of finance, project management, and client billing, the successful candidate will provide decision-support data that enables leadership to accurately assess project profitability and performance against budget.Key ResponsibilitiesContract & Project AccountingMaintain accurate accounting records for all ongoing contracts and projects, including Work Completion and Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules.Apply revenue recognition principles based on actual completion percentages in compliance with applicable accounting standards.Perform monthly closing procedures for projects in progress, including necessary financial settlements and reconciliations.Calculate project profit and loss positions based on approved completion certificates and contract milestones.Cost Management & AnalysisClassify, allocate, and analyze administrative and operational costs, linking them accurately to their respective projects.Monitor actual project costs against approved budgets and conduct detailed variance analysis with supporting commentary.Identify cost overruns, efficiency gaps, and budgetary risks at the project level and escalate findings proactively.Billing & Client ClaimsPrepare and submit monthly client claims and progress invoices based on actual completion rates and contractual terms.Ensure all billing documentation aligns with contract conditions, client requirements, and internal approval workflows.Follow up on outstanding receivables and coordinate with the collections team as needed.Reporting & Cross-functional CoordinationPrepare periodic financial reports covering revenues, costs, cash flows, and project profitability for management review.Coordinate with Technical and Project Management teams to verify completion percentages and ensure alignment with financial records.Support the Financial Manager in month-end and year-end close activities, including audit preparation and documentation.Ensure compliance with internal financial controls, policies, and relevant regulatory requirements.Required QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline; CPA or equivalent professional certification is a strong advantage.Minimum 3 years of hands-on accounting experience, with a preference for project-based or contracting environments.Solid understanding of contract accounting, WIP schedules, and percentage-of-completion revenue recognition methods.Proven experience in monthly financial close, cost allocation, and management reporting.Familiarity with ERP and accounting systems (e.g., Odoo, or equivalent).Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, financial modeling, and data analysis.Strong analytical mindset with attention to detail and the ability to work under deadline pressure.Core SkillsContract accounting & WIP managementRevenue recognition (% of completion)Cost allocation & variance analysisClient billing & claims preparationAdvanced Microsoft ExcelERP / Accounting software proficiencyFinancial reporting & management accountsAnalytical thinking & problem solvingAttention to detail & data accuracyTime management & deadline orientationCross-functional coordinationEffective written & verbal communicationProfessional integrity & confidentialityAdaptability in fast-paced environmentsLanguagesEnglish: Professional (written and spoken).Arabic: Native or advanced proficiency is required.
