This role manages the DBA team, drives technical excellence, and oversees database design, maintenance, monitoring, automation, and disaster recovery across enterprise systemsKey accountabilities and decision ownership:Team LeadershipLead and mentor the database administration team, fostering technical growth and collaboration.Assign tasks, provide technical guidance, and conduct performance evaluations.Establish database standards, policies, and best practices for PostgreSQL and SQL Server.Collaborate with development, infrastructure, and application support teams to align database solutions with business needs.Database ManagementInstall, configure, and maintain PostgreSQL and Microsoft SQL Server instances across on-premises and cloud environments.Experience with cloud-native databases (AWS RDS, Azure SQL, Aurora PostgreSQL).Manage database upgrades, patching, migrations, and consolidation projects.Design and implement scalable database architectures, including partitioning, sharding, and clustering.Oversee schema design, normalization, and indexing strategies for high-performance applications.Performance & MonitoringMonitor database performance using tools such as pgAdmin, pg_stat_statements, SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS), and third-party monitoring platforms.Perform advanced query optimization, index tuning, and execution plan analysis.Implement proactive monitoring, alerting, and capacity planning solutions.Lead performance engineering initiatives to support mission-critical workloads.Backup & Disaster RecoveryDesign and maintain enterprise backup strategies using native tools (pgBackRest, SQL Server Backup) and third-party solutions.Implement and test disaster recovery procedures, including point-in-time recovery and log shipping.Manage high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) architectures such as AlwaysOn Availability Groups, failover clustering, replication, and PostgreSQL streaming replication.Security & ComplianceImplement robust database security controls, including role-based access, encryption (TDE, pgcrypto), and auditing.Ensure compliance with organizational and regulatory standards (GDPR, HIPAA, SOX).Oversee vulnerability management, patching, and secure configuration baselines.RequirementsTechnical SkillsStrong expertise in Microsoft SQL Server (installation, configuration, HA/DR, performance tuning).Strong expertise in PostgreSQL (replication, partitioning, query optimization, extensions).Advanced SQL query optimization, execution plan analysis, and performance troubleshooting.Experience with HA/DR solutions: AlwaysOn, failover clusters, log shipping, PostgreSQL replication.Knowledge of database monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, SQL Profiler, pgAdmin).Strong knowledge of Linux (RHEL/Ubuntu) and Windows Server environments.Familiarity with scripting and automation (PowerShell, Bash, Python).Soft SkillsProven leadership and team management skills.Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.Ability to manage critical production systems under pressure.Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.Experience8+ years of database administration experience with SQL Server and PostgreSQL.3+ years in a database leadership or management role.Experience managing large-scale production databases and mission-critical systems.Preferred QualificationsExperience with cloud-native databases (AWS RDS, Azure SQL, Aurora PostgreSQL).Knowledge of database automation frameworks (Ansible, Terraform, CI/CD pipelines).Familiarity with DevOps practices and infrastructure-as-code.Experience in data platform strategy and modernization initiatives.Emerging Technologies & Future-Focused PracticesExperience with Kubernetes Operators for databases (e.g., Crunchy Postgres Operator, SQL Server Operator) to manage containerized database workloads.Knowledge of hybrid cloud strategies and multi-cloud database deployments.Familiarity with serverless database offerings (Aurora Serverless, Azure SQL Database serverless).Exposure to data streaming and integration platforms (Kafka, Debezium, Change Data Capture).Understanding of observability practices for databases, including distributed tracing and advanced telemetry.Awareness of AI-driven performance tuning and emerging automation tools for query optimization.Ability to evaluate and adopt next-generation storage and compute technologies (NVMe, persistent memory, cloud-native storage).Our values guide how we think and act - They describe what we care about the mostCustomer first - It’s embedded in our design thinking and customer service approachOpen - Openness allows us to constantly improve and evolveReal - No jargon and no excuses!Bold - Constantly challenging ourselves and our way of thinkingResilient – If we fail, we bounce back stronger than beforeCollaborative - We know that we can achieve a lot more as a teamWe are changing lives by constantly striving for a better solutionClick apply below and become part of the Geidea story
