DevOps Staff Engineer

The Staff DevOps Engineer leads the design, implementation, and operation of the infrastructure and platform capabilities that support Modupay’s real-time, microservices-based financial systems. Combining hands-on delivery with technical leadership, the role builds secure, production-grade, and highly observable environments—with strong automation and reliability built in from day one. Particular focus is placed on Kubernetes-based platforms, where runtime stability, GitOps, CI/CD, and infrastructure security are critical to the safe and reliable operation of mission-critical payment services. Responsibilities: Design and manage Kubernetes environments for microservices using Helm, Docker, and modern deployment practices.Implement GitOps workflows using ArgoCD or equivalent tooling to strengthen release control.Own CI/CD pipelines and release automation using GitHub Actions and related tooling.Build and maintain observability across logs, metrics, dashboards, tracing, and alerting.Implement infrastructure security controls such as TLS/mTLS, secrets management, and access control.Partner with backend engineers on deployment needs, configuration, and production readiness.Support PostgreSQL and Redis infrastructure from a deployment and operations perspective.Improve platform resilience through backups, capacity planning, incident support, and performance tuning.Standardize infrastructure and deployment patterns across environments for greater speed and safety.Mentor engineers through documentation, technical guidance, reviews, and hands-on support. Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.Strong hands-on experience with Kubernetes, Helm, and containerized workloads.Solid experience with Docker, CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure automation, and GitOps practices.Good understanding of observability stacks such as Prometheus, Grafana, and centralized logging platforms including ELK or similar.Infrastructure security practices: certificate-based communication, secrets handling, and access-control hardening.Good knowledge of cloud-native architecture, microservices deployment patterns, and operational excellence.Strong ownership mindset, troubleshooting ability, and communication skills, with the ability to translate application requirements into reliable runtime environments.Experience in fintech, payments, banking, or other regulated environments.Exposure to real-time platforms with high-availability and low-latency expectations.Experience with PostgreSQL, Redis, and stateful platform components in distributed environments.Familiarity with Kubernetes security best practices, policy controls, and platform governance.Experience supporting proof-of-concepts and scaling them toward production-grade deployments.English – professional working proficiency (written and spoken). Arabic – an advantage.6+ years in DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), or infrastructure/platform engineering roles.Backend engineering, QA, and platform teams; product teams; and engineering leadership.Cloud and infrastructure service providers and tooling vendors, as applicable. Major Decisions/Authorities & Responsibilities: Define and standardize infrastructure, deployment, and release patterns across environments.Own CI/CD pipeline design and release-automation decisions.Set observability and infrastructure-security standards (TLS/mTLS, secrets management, access control).Make production-readiness and platform-resilience decisions, including backups, capacity planning, incident response, and performance tuning.Provide technical direction and mentorship, influencing engineering standards through reviews, guidance, and documentation.
