This role involves creating innovative, sustainable, and contextually appropriate urban design solutions while managing project teams and coordinating with stakeholders. The position plays a key role in ensuring high-quality design outputs, guiding junior staff, and supporting the strategic vision of the firm or department.Accountabilities / ResponsibilitiesLead the preparation of master plans, urban design frameworks, and public realm strategies.Translate project visions and planning briefs into strong, design-driven solutions.Direct conceptual and detailed design work for mixed-use, residential, commercial, and infrastructure projects.Integrate sustainability, mobility, livability, and climate-responsive principles into design.Manage project timelines, deliverables, and design workflows across multidisciplinary teams.Liaise with clients, local authorities, and consultants to ensure alignment and timely approvals.Support proposal writing, bids, and preparation of project documentation.Oversee quality control and compliance with regulatory frameworks and planning policies.Represent the urban design team in client meetings, presentations, and public consultations.Present urban design proposals clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.Coordinate with architects, landscape architects, engineers, and planners for integrated design outcomes.Supervise and mentor junior and intermediate designers.Review design deliverables and provide constructive feedback.Promote best practices in urban design and graphic communication within the team.Job CompetencesStrong conceptual and design thinking with a focus on spatial quality, user experience, and functionality.In-depth understanding of zoning regulations, urban morphology, streetscape design, and placemaking.Familiarity with sustainable urbanism, TOD (Transit-Oriented Development), smart city principles, and green infrastructure.Proficient in AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator), and 3D modeling tools (e.g., SketchUp, Rhino).Experience with GIS, parametric tools, or BIM (Revit/Civil 3D) is a plus.Strong skills in producing clear, high-quality visual and written documentation.Strong interpersonal skills with ability to manage teams and collaborate across disciplines.Effective communicator, capable of leading workshops, design charrettes, and client presentations.Able to work under pressure and handle multiple projects simultaneously.Professional Qualification & Experience Bachelor’s or master’s degree in urban design, Architecture, or Urban Planning (urban design focus preferred).5–8 years of professional experience in urban design or related disciplines.Proven experience in delivering master plans or urban design projects in consultancy or public sector.Experience working in international or multidisciplinary teams is an advantage.Professional registration or affiliation (e.g., AICP, RIBA, ASLA, RTPI) is preferred.
