Control System EngineerAngloGold Ashanti acquired the Sukari gold mine in Egypt through the acquisition of Centamin plc in November 2024. Sukari is owned in partnership with the Egyptian Government. Sukari is located approximately 750km from Cairo and 25km from Marsa Alam on the Red Sea. First gold was poured in June 2009 and commercial production began in April 2010, making Sukari the first modern gold mine in Egypt, a country which in ancient times was a prolific producer of the precious metal. Sukari conducts both open-pit and underground mining operations, each employing specialised mining methods tailored to the orebody characteristics and operational requirements. The Role The Control System Engineer is responsible for the maintenance, breakdown rectification, and installation of process control systems, communication networks, and instrumentation on the Gold Processing Plant. Operating within the Fixed Plant Maintenance Electrical department, this role focuses on optimizing plant performance, reducing downtime, and increasing total equipment availability through continuous improvement initiatives and technical support. Location: On-site in Marsa AlamContract Type: Permanent, full-timeSchedule: 20/10 working rosterCompensation: Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package The Key ResponsibilitiesSystems Maintenance & Breakdown Rectification: Execute control system and instrumentation maintenance tasks while rapidly troubleshooting and rectifying emergency plant breakdowns to safely maximize total equipment availability.PLC & SCADA Optimization: Fault-find, program, and install Siemens PLCs (Step 7) and WinCC SCADA systems. Configure and optimize Profibus devices along with Siemens and Schneider Variable Speed Drives (VSDs).Continuous Improvement & Root Cause Analysis: Identify plant defects, system performance bottlenecks, and operational vulnerabilities. Initiate appropriate corrective actions, conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) on failures, and foster a culture of innovation.Preventative Maintenance Planning: Schedule and plan Preventative Maintenance (PM) tasks within the SGM Enterprise Asset Management framework, ensuring high-priority compliance against unplanned breakdowns. Log all maintenance interventions utilizing Mainpac or a similar system.Management of Change (MOC) & Documentation: Enforce strict compliance with the Management of Change process for all hardware and software modifications. Maintain and update electrical and instrumentation drawings, keeping SCADA modification records readily available.Procurement & Inventory Alignment: Liaise with Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and the procurement team to ensure correct component cataloging, accurate part descriptions, and adequate warehouse stock levels to sustain high site reliability.Workforce Training & Safety Leadership: Assist and train the electrical team in site-specific process control principles and communication network engineering. Coach and mentor staff, maintain 100% compliance with "Take 5" or Job Safety Analysis (JSA) protocols, and continuously report workplace hazards. The RequirementsEducation & Qualifications: A formal Tertiary Degree or an Associate Diploma in a relevant engineering discipline is required.Experience: 3 to 5 years of experience in an identical process control role or an equivalent practical industrial setting. Working knowledge of metalliferous processing operations or a heavy, complex industry heavily reliant on automation systems is required.Technical Skills: Non-negotiable, excellent understanding and hands-on exposure to Siemens PLCs (Step 7), WinCC SCADA systems, and control instrumentation. Competency in MS Word and Excel is required. A driver's license is considered an advantage.
