Position: Senior Laboratory Teaching Engineer - Mechanical Engineering DepartmentReports to: Technical Operations Manager and Industrial LiaisonPurpose: The job holder is responsible for operating and maintaining the assigned labs, providing the necessary support for faculty, researchers, teaching assistants, graduate or undergraduate students and external customers, including supervising the installation, operation and maintenance of lab equipment , assisting in procurement vendors including market surveys and the collection of price quotations, and spare parts, training equipment users, assuring equipment operation, setting up the equipment operation schedule, organizing work flow, ensuring lab safety, and representing the department of mechanical engineering in University and school events. In addition, the job holder is responsible for assisting instructors of courses to which he or she is assigned as a teaching assistant in facilitating learning activities inside and outside the classroom and the laboratory.Responsibilities:Assist in preparing the technical data and documents for accreditation reports, e.g. ABET, Supreme Council, Middle States, and othersAssist faculty in selecting different equipmentAssist in establishing and maintaining links with vendors of equipment, supplies, and technical servicesAssist in managing maintenance operations and contracting for the departmentEnsure assigned labs’ readiness for any technical task within its predetermined missionOperate and maintain all assigned labs’ assets, e.g. machines, equipment, tools and infrastructure, under the guidance of the faculty lab supervisorImplement and report all labs’ technical work instructions, Lab needs and activities to the faculty lab supervisorRun trials of the work to be carried out by students prior to the lab sessionSet up, conduct, and explain experiments to students in the assigned labsAssist faculty lab supervisors in the development of lab manuals and proceduresWith the approval of the faculty lab supervisor, facilitate the projects or research endeavors of the undergraduate or graduate students, as well as researchers and professors in their research activities or grants and engineering and science servicesStay up to date and report to lab faculty supervisors on new or required developments in fields related to the assigned labsProcure consumables or simple supplies from local market vendors, and perform any required market surveyContact the vendors to get price quotations for any required itemsMaintain an updated inventory of all lab itemsEnsure smooth operation of the lab in supporting instructors, students, and course requirements, while maintaining proper inter-lab relationsContinuously train subordinates to maintain their competence in using all the labs’ assetsFacilitate the projects or research endeavors of the undergraduate or graduate students, in their thesis as well as researchers and professors in their research activities or grants and engineering servicesCarry out various manual tasks using manual tools, where applicableEnsure safe and clean working environment within the assigned labs and their premises, in coordination with the AUC health and safety departmentApply safety regulations or precautions, safe work practices, and immediately report any safety violation incident or condition or potential hazardsMonitor first aid kits, fire-fighting equipment and safety gears in coordination with the AUC clinic and health and safety departmentSupervise the cleanliness of the lab workplace, equipment and toolsSupport students in carrying out experimental work in labsAssist in all required duties related to students in coordination with the faculty supervisorAssist in preparing course material and lab handouts under the guidance of the course instructorConduct revision or problem sessions which do not require the introduction of new materials to students under the guidance of the course instructorLeading in-class discussions and group activities which do not require the introduction of new materials to students under the guidance of the course instructorPerform any other related duties as assignedRequirements:Minimum Education Requirements:Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or mechatronics engineeringA minimum of five years of experience in related fieldsAt least one year of experience as a lab engineer or a similar experience Technical Skills:High level of competency with drafting and 3-D modeling toolsHigh level of competency with engineering software including Matlab and ANSYS fluentHands-on experience with energy-systemsStrong Microsoft Office tools competencyStrong interpersonal and communication skillsStrong scientific backgroundSkills: Advanced English skills, reading and writingVery good Arabic skills, reading and writingVery good communication skills in both English and ArabicVery good time management and planning skillsGood interpersonal skills.Good computer skills and work experience with the main Microsoft office softwareThis position is open until July 9th, 2026Placement is based on the candidate’s experience and skills.
