Lab Engineer – Electrical EngineeringVacancy for: Faculty of EngineeringScope & Purpose:Under direct supervision of the Head of the Mechanical Engineering department and general supervision of the engineering faculty, the Lab Technician provides supplemental support to small groups of students enrolled in the related undergraduate tutorials and labs. Employees in this classification will develop, organize, and support student activities in the lab sections with guidance/direction from the department’s head and supervise student interactions. The Lab Technician will also be directly responsible for the upkeeping and maintenance of lab equipment. The Lab Technician for operating the designated machines.Essential Duties & Responsibilities:1. Promotes safety inside the laboratory2. Prepares laboratory equipment on a weekly basis for related sections and practice hours3. Conducts functionality checks of critical lab equipment on a day-to-day basis4. Maintains, calibrates and tests all the equipment in the laboratory5. Undertakes in-house fixing of damages in the electrical/electronic equipment6. Where necessary, liaises with the equipment vendors on matters of installation, and maintenance7. Remains available for various lab sessions throughout the semesters8. Updates equipment software from time to time as needed, with the help of IT9. Attends meetings as and when required10. Undertakes other duties activities as assigned by the supervisor(s)11. Perform inventory control and help in preparing quotations for existing and new equipment12. Supervise students’ workers in the lab and validates their time sheets13. Helps in organizing Capstone Design Projects, and other lab events14. Conducts orientation for new faculty members and TAs related to the existing equipmentQualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Electronics and/or Electrical Engineering or equivalent.Experience:At least three (3) years* of experience in handling a technical laboratory in an academic setting.* Can be waived or relaxed for GIU/GUC graduatesSpecial Skills :1. Ability to deal with different electronic and electrical laboratory equipment2. Designing Electronic Circuits, using PCB Technology3. Generating Gerber files, using IDEs, such as Ultiboard, Proteus, or Eagle4. Operating PCB Milling Machines at different scales5. Using simulators, such as Multisim or PSpice6. Using breadboards, DMMS, OCRs, signal generators. And power spectrums7. Professional in using relevant software and hardware8. Able to learn and develop new techniques, both analog and digital9. Knowledge of instruments related to measurements, automation, and control courses10. Excellent written and spoken communication skills, both in Arabic and English (German is a plus)
