ROLE PURPOSE:Performs planned and breakdown mechanical maintenance on underground (UG) mobile and drill equipment to restore safe operating condition and minimise unplanned downtime. The role executes OEM-aligned servicing, inspection, repair and component replacement activities in the workshop and, when required, underground; applies critical safety controls for lifting and stored-energy hazards; and completes accurate maintenance documentation, parts identification and shift handover reporting to support reliable work control and asset performance.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES :A. Operational / Technical / Core Duties:Preventive Maintenance ExecutionComplete scheduled services, inspections and condition checks on UG equipment using OEM service sheets and site standards.Change consumables (oils, filters and service items) and correct minor defects to maintain equipment reliability.Identify additional defects during PMs, communicate priorities, and support accurate work scope definition for follow-on repairs.Mechanical Repair & Component ReplacementRemove, install and set up hydraulic, pneumatic and mechanical components (hoses, pumps, valves, cylinders, tyres, glass and GET) to restore functionality.Rebuild and overhaul selected components (e.g., hydraulic cylinders and other rotables) to extend component life and reduce replacement costs.Perform brake system, final drive and related undercarriage/driveline repairs in line with OEM specifications and workshop quality requirements.Diagnostic TroubleshootingDiagnose hydraulic, engine and powertrain faults using systematic fault-finding, OEM manuals, and approved diagnostic tools/portals.Support time-critical breakdown response in the workshop and underground by isolating faults, completing repairs, and validating equipment readiness for return-to-service.Conduct functional tests and post-repair inspections to confirm repair effectiveness and prevent repeat failures.Lifting, Handling & Stored-Energy TasksPlan and execute lifting/rigging for heavy components using approved lifting gear, exclusion zones and competent practices to prevent dropped-load incidents.Charge and verify nitrogen accumulators (where authorised) using approved equipment and procedures to control stored-energy risk.Maintain safe working setups using stands, jacks and supports to protect personnel and equipment during heavy maintenance tasks.Maintenance Documentation & Parts IdentificationUse OEM parts/service manuals and portals (e.g., CAT SIS and Sandvik references) to identify correct parts and raise accurate parts requests.Complete service sheets, work orders/notifications and shift handover notes with clear defect descriptions, actions taken and material usage.Maintain housekeeping and tool control to sustain an efficient and compliant workshop environment.B. Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) / Compliance Duties:Hazard Identification & ControlParticipate in daily pre-start meetings and task risk assessments to identify hazards and implement controls before starting work.Apply isolation and lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) requirements and verify zero-energy states for hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical systems prior to intervention.Control line-of-fire, pinch points and mobile equipment interaction risks through barricading, signage and exclusion zones.Safe Work Practices & ComplianceComply with SGM HSE standards, permits and procedures for lifting, stored energy, hot work (where applicable), and underground/workshop access.Report hazards, near-misses and incidents promptly, and support investigations and corrective actions to prevent recurrence.Handle oils, filters and waste materials in accordance with environmental requirements and maintain spill prevention readiness.Workplace Standards & HousekeepingMaintain a clean, organised work area and conduct end-of-task housekeeping to reduce slip/trip hazards and improve efficiency.Inspect tools and lifting equipment prior to use, tag-out defective items, and ensure calibration/inspection requirements are met .REQUIREMENTS:1. Qualifications & EducationMinimum: Technical/Vocational Diploma or Trade Certificate in Diesel/Mechanical Fitting.Preferred Certifications: OEM training (Sandvik, CAT, Normet, Volvo), hydraulic troubleshooting, lifting/rigging, and underground safety training.Licenses: Valid driver’s license, site-specific high-risk permits (LOTO, lifting), and medical fitness clearance for underground access.2. Experience RequirementsQuantity: Minimum of 3 years in heavy equipment maintenance.Industries: Mining, construction, or heavy industry.Specialization: Preference for experience with underground mobile/drill equipment, workshop practices, and OEM diagnostic systems (e.g., CAT SIS).3. Technical ExpertiseSystems Knowledge: Deep understanding of diesel engines, powertrains (transmissions, differentials), and underground-specific units (LHDs, drill rigs).Hydraulics: Expert-level skill in reading schematics, fault-finding, hose management, and cylinder rebuilds.Safety & Compliance: Proficiency in Lock-Out Tag-Out (LOTO), stored energy release, and managing nitrogen accumulators.Specialized Maintenance: Handling Ground Engaging Tools (GET), tyre/wheel assemblies, and high-precision fastener torque/tensioning.4. Soft Skills & Behavioral IndicatorsSafety Leadership: A "stop work" authority mindset; consistent use of PPE and reporting of near misses.Problem Solving: Moving beyond treating symptoms to finding the root cause using evidence and OEM data.Communication: Clear shift handovers and technical documentation in both Arabic (Professional) and English (Operational).Collaboration: Supporting teammates during breakdowns and working effectively with planners and HSE teams.5. Physical & Operational DemandsEnvironment: Willingness to work in confined, awkward underground spaces and traditional workshops.Stamina: Must be physically fit for heavy lifting and able to work shift rosters, including on-call or overtime for unplanned breakdowns.Roster: 6 weeks ON / 3 weeks OFF (FIFO)
